【摘要】:Thisguideisintendedtoaiddevicefabricatorsintheselectionofpropercommerciallyavailablepolyurethanesolidsandsolutionsfortheirapplication.Thepolyurethanescoveredbythisguidemaybethermoformedorsolutioncastintobiomedicaldevicesforuseassurgicalaidsorforimplantationasdeterminedtobeappropriate,basedonsupportingbiocompatibilityandphysicaltestdata.1.1Thisguidecoverstheevaluationofthermoplasticpolyurethanesinbothsolidandsolutionformforbiomedicalapplications.Thepolymershavebeenreactedtocompletionandrequirenofurtherchemicalprocessing.1.2Thetestsandmethodslistedinthisguidemaybereferencedinspecificationcontainingminimumrequiredvaluesandtolerancesforspecificenduseproducts.1.3TestvaluesshallbestatedinSIunitswithinch-poundunitsinparentheses.1.4Standardtestsforbiocompatibilityareincludedtoaidintheassessmentofsafeutilizationinbiomedicalapplications.Compliancewiththesecriteriashallnotbeconstructedasanendorsementofimplantability.Sincemanycompositions,formulations,andformsofthermoplasticpolyurethanesinsolidandsolutionformsarewithinthismaterialclass,theformulatororfabricatormustevaluatethebiocompatibilityofthespecificcompositionorformintheintendeduseandaftercompletionofallmanufacturingprocessesincludingsterilization.1.5Purchasespecificationsmaybepreparedbyagreementbetweenthebuyerandsellerbyselectionofappropriatetestsandmethodsfromthoselistedapplicabletothespecificbiomedicalenduse.1.6Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
